Award nominations.......

Uncanny X-Force received the following nominations in the "Best of 2010 Awards" at IGN.com:

-  Best Writer (Rick Remender)
-  Best New Series
-  Best Art Team

Unfortunately, the book didn't win any of the awards - Batman & Robin pretty much scooped the pool!

Uncanny X-Force #3 review(s)!

Hey everyone - computer troubles have kept me away for a week, but I've managed to read #3 (several times), and I think it really upholds the high standards the previous two issues set for it!

The Final Horsemen (and their powers) are fleshed out well by Remender and Opena, and each of the characters have distinct personalities that are sure to be developed even more in the future. The single-page origins of each character are invaluable, and artistically detailed, helping to make these Horsemen into viable, interesting characters, as opposed to generic archtypes.

And what an impact these characters have on X-Force! The battle is initially one-sided, in favour of Apocalypse's followers, but thanks to some mental intervention by Psylocke, and some illusion-casting by Fantomex, X-Force are slowly evening the odds. The next issue, the final one in the current storyline, should lead to a very exciting and unpredicatable ending.

The issue winds up with Psylocke ready to finish the child Apocalypse. In all my years of comics, I have never found Betsy to be an interesting character, but she certainly stole a lot of limelight this issue. Her psychic searches of the Horsemen, her dampening of Fantomex's pain, and the intensity of the last panel all contribute to my growing interest in the character. This wouldn't be possible without the interesting writing of Rick Remender and the detailed, engaging artwork of Jerome Opena. Well done to all!

Preview of #3!

From Axel Alonso:
"Rick Remender really dug what Jason Aaron did with Deathlok over in "Wolverine: Weapon X" and saw the potential to revisit that character and his world in the pages of "Uncanny X-Force." And the hook is insane! The story starts in issue #5, out in February. Cover artist Esad Ribic is penciling it, and the pages will blow people away. Trust me when I say, Deathlok is a perfect fit for this book, this team.

Who are the Horsemen?

According to Rick Remender:

"PESTilence... bugs... who had bugs? Starving Warren = Famine. War is War. Uncle Ben is Death."

Uncanny X-Force #2 review

It's been almost two months since #1, but the second issue of Uncanny X-Force certainly delivers!

Once again, each character has some excellent moments in the spotlight, including the conversations between Wolverine and Angel, the touching moment between Warren and Betsy, and rapport between Fantomex and Deadpool. The issue is told from Psylocke's perspective (as #1 was from Fantomex's), and Remender delves into what she deals with, and what she knows she could face in the future. He clearly understands these characters.

The artwork was of a very high standard, courtesy of Jerome Opena, although there was a lot happening in some of the fight scenes. I really hope the lateness of this issue doesn't delay the following issues to an almost bi-monthly schedule, as Opena's designs of the Final Horseman leaves me wanting to see more! It's genuinely hard to choose which Horseman is the creepiest.

Overall, a very entertaining and exciting issue. 4.5 out of 5.

Uncanny X-Force's new artist!

The artist for the second arc of Uncanny X-Force will be Esad Ribic!

Esad has recently done some covers for Uncanny X-Force, and his previous comics work includes mini-series such as Loki, Silver Surfer: Requiem, Sub-Marine: The Depths (all Marvel) and Four Horsemen (Vertigo), amongst many other comics and covers.

Hopefully Esad will have a good head-start, as Uncanny X-Force #2 has been delayed for the third time, to 24th November.
